At times a driver may be required to move a truck within a yard at the carrier, shipper, or truckstop location. The FMCSA allows drivers to designate these driving events as on-duty not driving (ON). When the driver is connected to the AOBRD and exceeds the set speed limit (typically 5mph), it will normally trigger an automated driving event.
If the driver wishes to remain in on-duty and not incur a driving event, he/she can select on duty and check yard move in the pop-up as shown below. This must be initiated prior to driving when the vehicle is stationary.
The event will be recorded as on-duty until the vehicle goes into motion over 5mph. Once this occurs Yard Move will be displayed in the locked screen instead of Driving. it will be recorded on the ON line in the graph as mandated by the FMCSA guidelines.
